Academic Phases for the Elementary Credentials
Elementary I: Six to Nine Year Old Level
The academic portion of the training to become a teacher of six-to-nine-year olds takes 360 contact hours of instruction. (This does not include the 30 hours for the required introductory course work in Child Development, see Course Descriptions following.)
During the summer phases, students attend class for four weeks from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, there will be a two-day, midwinter seminar in January. Evening practice sessions are offered once per week during this period.
Elementary II: Six to Twelve Year Old Level
The academic portion of the training to extend the Elementary I certificate to age twelve, takes 256 contact hours of instruction following the Elementary I course. Summer phase classes are held for six weeks total from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with one hour for lunch. Midwinter seminars follow the same schedule.
