Professional Development

Maria Montessori knew the value of instilling a lifelong love of learning.

Our goal is to offer meaningful and accessible educational opportunities for further professional development.

In-Person Workshop:

Effective Communication in the Classroom: Collaborative and Proactive Problem Solving

The Collaborative and Proactive Problem Solving model is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity affirming, and helps caregivers focus on identifying the problems that are causing concerning behaviors in kids and solving those problems collaboratively and proactively. This workshop will focus on how teachers of children ages four and up can use this tool in the classroom.

STARS CREDIT 3 hours

Recommended for professionals working with children ages 4 and up.

Participants will receive detailed instruction on how to conduct Collaborative Problem Solving / Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) based on the philosophy and established practices of three nationally recognized subject matter experts, including CPS’ originator Dr. Ross Greene, mental health counselor and ADHD coach Cindy Goldrich, and Stuart Ablon, Founder and Director of Think:Kids in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. In the training, adult learners will have the opportunity to practice CPS and plan a CPS discussion with one of their students, preparing them to implement the process with students in their own classroom.

Presenter Robin Held has a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Washington, and Early Childhood and Elementary I Montessori credentials from the Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest. Assistant Training:

Montessori classrooms thrive with the support of well-prepared assistants. A trained assistant who understands Montessori philosophy is an asset to any program. This course offers assistants the opportunity to build meaningful skills.

Assistants will learn:

  • Montessori philosophy

  • The role of the assistant

  • How to respectfully and effectively support children, lead teachers, and co-workers in the Montessori environment in ways that reflect the values and principles of Montessori education.

  • Although not a materials course, participants will also deepen their understanding of some Montessori materials and the prepared environment.

This course is in a hybrid format with Zoom sessions and on-site meetings for a well-rounded and impactful learning experience. 11 hours of STARS credit is available upon completion of online and in-person work.
